Gathering Question:
What is a go-to food when you’re hungry, sad, or glad? How has this particular food
served to mark your life?

Father, by Your Spirit, would You guide us into all truth. Help us to hear and be attentive
to Your voice as we work through this study. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, we pray,
Amen.

Opening Questions
  • What stood out to you in the sermon?
  • What insights did you gain?
  • What questions did it raise?

Read John 6:22-26
• Jesus says that the Father has given him his ‘seal of approval’ (NLT). What is
significant about a seal? What is Jesus conveying in this imagery?

Read John 6:27-29
• Does Jesus surprise you when he says the only work God wants is to believe in
the one he has sent? What else would you expect Jesus to say? When you
share your faith with others, do you add more to what Jesus says here? Why or
why not?

Read John 6:30-33
• Jesus draws a contrast between Moses and the Father. Why might the contrast
need to be drawn? Have you ever experienced placing a holy person in the place
of God and needed to be reminded that there is a difference?

Read John 6:34-40
• Jesus seems to indicate that the gift of faith begins with God, that the Father
draws people to himself. Who is it that the Father draws to Jesus? What does
this drawing by the Father do with a persons free choice?

Read John 6:41-51
• Jesus talks about the reward, or the mark of someone who believes is eternal
life. As you’ve read through this text, how does Jesus define Eternal life? What is
included in eternal life? When does it begin? How does this text make you think
about Eternal life?

Read John 6:52-59, and Genesis 49:11
(notice especially the line, ‘his robes in the blood of grapes’)
• As you reflect on times when you’ve partaken of the Lord’s supper, how has
Jesus been really present to you? How has his body and blood given your life,
life?

Closing Prayer
Kind Father
"Give us today our daily bread"
Literally and soulfully
The bread we need today is wheat, rye, or glutten-free
Bless those who grow the grains, watch over their fields
The bread we need is friendship, camaraderie, espirit de corps
Bless those who visit the sick, who bring companionship to the lonely
The bread we need is mercy and justice, grace and truth, faith-hope-and-love
Bless the Lord O my soul, let us remember your ways of provision
Bless Jesus - the Christ - the bread of life, who brings the staff of life to the
world, to us
Bless the Holy Spirit - who moves among the hungry, with provision for today
