What is one way you’ve experienced God in your life this week?

Father, by Your Spirit, would You guide us into all truth. Help us to hear and be attentive to Your voice as we work through this study. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, we pray, Amen.

Opening Questions
  • What stood out to you in the sermon?
  • What insights did you gain?
  • What questions did it raise?

Read John 8:12-30

I am the Light of the World
  • Many people hear “light” and think of Jesus as a teacher who simply shows us the right path. Why is this understanding incomplete?
  • In Exodus, the pillar of fire didn’t just “show the way”—it protected Israel, drove back enemies, and gave confidence in God’s presence. How does this reshape what Jesus means when He says, “I am the light of the world”?

Moralism vs Gospel
| The Pharisees knew Scripture but missed Jesus. They trusted their own righteousness more than God’s rescue.
  • Why do you think religious people sometimes struggle most with receiving grace?
  • In what ways are we tempted to turn faith into moralism (rules, performance, appearances) instead of the gospel (rescue, surrender, relationship)?
  • How do you wrestle with the paradox that salvation is not about what you do, but about what Christ has already done?

The Light of the World | Jesus doesn’t just say, “I am the light of Israel.” He says, “I am the light of the world.”
  • What burdens or “darknesses” in your life reveal your need for Jesus not just as a guide, but as your deliverer?
  • Why is it significant that His light shines for the whole world, not just for one group of people or for one type of person?
  • Who in your life might need to see that Jesus’ light is for them?
