What insights did you gain?
What questions did it raise?

The Second Commandment: Honor the Lord
What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you read this commandment? Why? What are your initial thoughts on following this command?
Read James 5.12 & Matthew 5.33-37
Jesus and James connect this command with oath-taking. That is to add power to one’s oath, you could swear by heaven, or by the temple, or by God. Why do you suppose they suggest speaking simply with yes and no?
Read Matthew 23
The religious rulers added expectations, in the name of God, that Jesus questioned. How have you experienced this kind of added expectations – either in giving them, or receiving them? How does Jesus lament in 23.37 speak to you?
