Read John 2:1-12

The Ceremonial Jars

• Why do you think Jesus chose the ceremonial jars—not wine jugs—for this miracle?
• These jars were used for religious purification. What might Jesus be saying by filling them with wine instead?
• How does this repurposing of the jars reflect what Jesus came to do with religion and human effort?

The Wine

• In the Bible, wine can represent both joy and judgment. How are both seen in this story?
• The sermon pointed out that the wine ran out—what might that symbolize about earthly sources of joy?
• Jesus provides wine in overflowing abundance. What does this say about the joy He offers? How is it different from what the world offers?

The Wedding

• Why do you think Jesus chose a wedding for His first miracle?
• The sermon connects this wedding feast to the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19). How does this shift our perspective on what Jesus is doing in this story?
• What does this story tell us about Jesus’ desire for relationship over religion?

To Believe in Him

• What does it mean to “believe” in Jesus as John describes it in verse 11—not just intellectually, but relationally? How is trusting a person different from believing facts about them?
