Community Focused

We are community Focused

We are a church that is both Christ Centered and Community Focused.
This means we serve and care for our community in many ways, and it starts with building relationships with the people around us. Each area of outreach looks a little different, from being a location for the Flourish food pantry, to offering transformational programs, to providing space for a Neighborhood Garden on our campus and partnering with local schools including Pittman Elementary.

A key partner that helps build relationships and transform lives is Flourish Community Development Corporation (CDC), a non-profit ministry that Schweitzer started in 2021. Learn more about Flourish below.

If you have an idea that helps care for our community, reach out to any of our staff to begin the conversation or email Jason Leininger.

COMMUNITY FOCUSED MINISTRIES

FLOURISH
FOOD PANTRY

Through the Flourish Food Pantry, we are able to share the love of Christ by providing food, household supplies, and spiritual guidance in times of crisis. The Food Pantry is a place of encouragement for guests and for the many volunteers who serve our community.

PANTRY HOURS:
Tuesday & Wednesday
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Visit Flourishcdc.org to learn more about requirements.

NEIGHBORHOOD
GARDEN

The East Stanford Neighborhood Garden on the Schweitzer Campus is a space where people of various backgrounds come together to grow food and join in community together.

People can secure their plots in the spring of each year. Contact the Schweitzer Church office for more information.

Our garden is part of the Springfield Community Gardens.

EMBRACE
GRACE

Embrace Grace is a 12-week support group for single and pregnant women. Each Wednesday night, participants and leaders have a meal together, followed by a video produced by Embrace Grace.

Using a Biblically-based curriculum, single moms are introduced to Jesus, who focuses on their identity and worth in Him. Participants gain a support network with leaders, prayer pals and friends in similar situations.

PITTMAN
ELEMENTARY

Schweitzer encourages and supports our nearby elementary school (Pittman) in many different ways. We provide backpacks in the fall, share ongoing teacher support and encouragement all year long. We host monthly Parents Night Out events, plus  Holiday Market for parents with kids and Pittman.

Many Schweitzer volunteers serve as "Reading Buddies." These volunteers provide positive mentorship and encourage students in their reading development.

Flourish CDC

A key partner that helps us build relationships and transform lives is Flourish Community Development Corporation (CDC) - a non-profit ministry that Schweitzer started in 2021. Flourish is focused on building relationships and transforming lives.

Over the years, Schweitzer has played a key role in ministries that now operate under Flourish's leadership. Flourish's ministries include a Food Pantry, Jobs for Life, encouragement in two vertical communities (Nordic Landing / Y Gardens), and the Coach House Ministry, a transitional home for women.
